3 Things You Should Always Do at the Gym

3 Things You Should Always Do at the Gym - MamaExercises.com

I love that so many people want to go to the gym and workout. It’s a good thing – generally. However, there are three things to always do at the gym that I don’t think many people are aware of.

Or maybe they’re aware, but just think it doesn’t really apply to them.

Whatever the reason, a good refresher is always a positive thing! And, if you’re heading to the gym for the first time (or the first time in awhile!), great job!

You’re going to do great!!

3 Things You Should Always Do at the Gym

1. Reserve Your Spot & Respect Time Limits

If you go to a popular gym with a limited number of cardio machines, you may find that there’s a time limit for workouts during the busiest hours of the day.

At our gym, the cardio machines are limited to 30 minute sessions during peak times. In instances like that, you may need to reserve your spot on the treadmill or elliptical.

Be sure to do that first when you get to the gym, so that you know about how long it will take before you can hop on.

Once it’s your turn, be respectful of the time limit and finish up your run or routine (including cool down!) before your allotted time is up.

Not only will it help keep the flow of workouts running smoothly, it’s just good gym etiquette and human decency.

2. Wipe Down the Equipment

I’m a bit of a germo-phobe when it comes to exercise equipment. Working out on a machine or lifting weights that someone else has sweated all over? No thanks!

While people are supposed to wipe down the equipment after they use it, I’ve witnessed way too many times that people have just gotten up and left, never to return to wipe off the machines.

Dude, that’s just gross.

So, I recommend wiping down the machines and equipment before and after you use them.

If you’re not sure where the sanitizing wipes are, ask the gym staff before you begin.  Usually they’re located in boxes or tubs mounted on the wall, or, especially in hotel gyms, they’re located on top of the trash bins.

Even if you haven’t had a particularly sweaty workout – for the love of all things holy, wipe the equipment down.  I beg of you!

3. Wear Deodorant

This should be a given, right? Sadly, friends, it’s not always something people think of – until it’s too late.

Make it a habit, before you begin your workout, to put on some fresh deodorant.  Not only will you feel more comfortable, but your fellow gym goers will thank you.

Working out produces sweat and sweaty workouts smell like…sweaty workouts. Body odor is a real and natural thing, but it can also be controlled.

So, before you head to the gym, make sure you know what to do.  Sometimes the simplest acts can make the biggest difference! Sweaty man who didn’t wipe down the machine, I’m talking to you.
