How to Make an Essential Oil Roller Bottle

I love using a drop of essential oil straight, but sometimes it needs to be diluted – especially if it’s going to be used on the kids. So, figuring out how to make an essential oil roller bottle with the oils that we use the most was a must. It’s super simple and can help stretch your oils to make them go a long way!

Supplies and Tips for Making an Essential Oil Roller Bottle

Before you break out the oil and start pouring, it’s important to make sure you have the supplies you need. Besides the oil, the most important thing is the funnel. Without it, you’re likely to have a mess of a time. Trust me on that one. #BeenThereDoneThat

Always use glass bottles when making an essential oil roller bottle. Some oils (especially citrus oils) can break down plastic.

We prefer stainless steel roller balls, because they glide so smoothly. We’ve tried plastic roller balls before, but they’ve tended to get stuck and not roll.

Carrier Oils

A carrier oil is a fatty oil that helps to slow down the absorption of the essential oil into the body. It helps dilute “hot oils” like Thieves that can have a warming effect when applied to the skin straight. There are many different kinds of carrier oils, but the most popular tend to be:

  • Grapeseed Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Almond Oil
  • Olive Oil

It doesn’t matter which oil you use, as long as it’s one that you like. Be mindful of the temperature though, because some oils – like coconut – will harden when they get too cold. That’s okay for a balm, but for a roller bottle it’s important to have one that will stay liquid. We prefer this almond oil in our roller bottles.

  3. Fill the bottle 7/8 of the way with carrier oil.
  4. Snap on the roller cap, making sure that it’s on tightly and is secure.
  5. Screw on the lid.
  6. Shake the bottle well and apply.

Be sure to give the bottle a good shake before each use to make sure that the essential oil is dispersed through the carrier oil.

Enjoy!
