Why I Choose to Drink Shakeology

There are a lot of options out there but this is why I choose to drink Shakeology.

Why I Choose to Drink Shakeology

I’ll admit, I was a huge skeptic. I’ve never been a shake kind of girl – mainly because the ones we’ve had tasted like dirt. Ha! So, before I really decided that I was going to commit to using it, I did some research. If you’re into the geeky side of it like me, read on.  If not, that’s totally okay, but I wanted to share some links and research with you. Just as a little disclaimer, I’m not a doctor and the information below is not intended to diagnose or treat any type of issue.

The 5 Things That Convinced Me to Drink Shakeology

So, the five things that convinced me that Shakeology was needed in my life were that:

  1. It has no soy
  2. It has no artificial sweeteners
  3. It has no artificial flavoring
  4. It has a low glycemic index
  5. It’s nutrient dense.

What does all of that mean?

SOY

Well, soy has been linked to a lot of really bad things – like an increased risk of breast cancer. Since breast and ovarian cancers run in my family, I don’t need more of a risk, thank you very much.  Some people are fine with taking that chance, but after reading more about the harm it can cause to the body, I am definitely not one of them.

GLYCEMIC INDEX

What’s that glycemic index you speak of? Well, you know when you eat (especially a lot of carbs) and then BAM! your sugar drops a bit later and you’re irritable, shaky, and you just know your blood sugar is out of whack? Well, that’s due in large part to the food you eat.  I’ve experienced this all of my life and looking back, I can really see that the foods I was eating were high on the Glycemic Index.  Now I know better and when you know better, you do better.

Here’s more information on why a low glycemic index is ideal in foods. Shakeology is 24 – which is awesome!

NUTRIENT DENSE

And the thing that really fascinates me about Shakeology is the fact that it’s so nutrient dense. It has A LOT of amazing nutrients that help supplement the whole food diet you’re eating.  The study below showed that even by eating a whole food diet, your body *still* doesn’t get the amount of nutrients it needs.

Why is that so important?

Because here you are, exercising and rocking your program, and about 7-11 days in (that 11 day mark that used to get me every. single. time. before I started Shakeology!!) your body catches up to the fact that it’s nutrient depleted. So you start to feel tired, maybe you start to feel sick, your energy is non-existent, you feel sluggish and mentally foggy, and you want to quit because you feel like poo – not to mention the cravings you’re having!  It’s because you’re not giving your body the nutrients it needs in order to sustain itself.

So, you say heck with it and binge or stop exercising and eating right and the cycle of stopping and starting starts all over.  Here’s the thing, Shakeology is that stop gap, because it helps bridge the gap between what nutrients your body needs and what you’re giving it through your healthy diet. It keeps your body stocked with nutrients so that it’s easier to keep going and function.

It helps break that cycle.  Diet alone can’t do it.

Realizing this and actually experiencing the change when I tried Shakeology was eye opening for me.  Here’s that nutrient deficiency study so that you can see for yourself: .Prevalence of micronutrient deficiency in popular diet plansResearch has shown micronutrient deficiency to be scientifically linked to a higher risk of overweight/obesity and other dangerous and… jissn.biomedcentral.com

Ultimately, it’s up to you what you decide to put in your body and it’s up to you to do the research. For me, really understanding the nutrient depletion aspect of it all made sense.  All of those times when I was eating right and exercising and couldn’t sustain it, because my body would put on the brakes suddenly made sense. For me, Shakeology helps keep cravings at bay, evens out what I would describe as my sugar levels, and fuels my body. Some people say that it gives them a jolt of energy, but that’s not been my experience.  For me, it’s been about keeping an even keel and diminishing cravings.  Weight loss is a by-product of healthy eating and giving your body the nutrients it needs. When you don’t, you end up eating things that aren’t good for you.  And then the cycle of stopping and starting that exercise and eating plan starts all over.

If you’re tired of starting over, you have to figure out why you keep stopping.  And that might just be because you’re nutrient deficient.
